Jan Drynan

For more than 30 years painter Jan Drynan has lived and worked on a cattle property in an isolated valley in the southern border ranges of the Scenic Rim. This is the landscape which inspires her work. Her paintings depict well known scenes in the area. Each is carefully worked until the artist is satisfied with the emotional tone of the work
The places Drynan depicts mean a great deal to her as she has lived there for so long. Her paintings take a long time to construct and are rich in detail.

Janet Hauser

Janet Hauser is a botanical watercolour illustrator, creating works with  fine detail and superb use of colour. She is a self-taught artist, and is a founding member of the Queensland Botanical Artist’s Society. Through her paintings, Hauser hopes to draw the public’s attention to the beauty of our native flora. She has been a keen naturalist and conversationalist all her life, with a passionate love of botany, especially within rainforest habitats. Her other keen interests include preserving our pioneering history, gardening and bushwalking.
Janet Hauser’s beautifully presented book will also be on sale. Grandfather Grew Mangel-Wurzels focuses on the botanical history of the Scenic Rim, so visitors to Garden Hill on the day will pass many of the places and plants so beautifully presented on each carefully crafted page. The Lost World Valley is well represented.
This book combines stories of plants, sometimes stretching back four generations to the time of their original planting, with elegant illustrations crafted by the author in her characteristically intricate and detailed style. Like the old farmhouses and outbuildings, antique farm machinery and bush skills and knowledge, our remaining examples of heritage plantings are fast disappearing. We should be grateful to Hauser for taking the time to present and preserve this important facet of the heritage of the Scenic Rim Region.
